No Greens Wordle: When Green Stops Meaning Anything
No Greens Wordle is a challenge that's been going around Wordle videos. It changes one rule. Every grey tile is shown as green. A real green still shows as green too, so you can no longer tell a letter in the right spot from a letter that isn't in the word at all. Yellow is the only color that still tells you the truth.
That flips the game around. In normal Wordle, green is what you're chasing. Here it's mostly noise, and a row of five greens can be a complete miss. The game only ends when you type the exact hidden word, and you still have six guesses to do it.
How to get information out of yellows
Since a yellow is the only clue you can trust, you have to set up guesses that can produce one. Once a letter has been yellow, you know it's in the word. After that, any green on that letter really is green, because that letter can't be grey. That's how you start pinning letters down.
For letters you're unsure about, the trick is to move them. If you think R might be second, try R somewhere else. If it comes back yellow, R is in the word and not in that new spot. If it comes back green again, it's either right there by chance or not in the word, and you've learned less.
Repeated letters follow normal Wordle scoring. If the answer has one E and you guess two, the extra E would have been grey, so it shows as green.
A few habits that help
- Open with common letters in less common spots. A yellow is worth far more than a green here.
- Keep track of which letters have been yellow. Those are the only letters you know are in the word.
- Don't relax after an all-green row. It usually means most of those letters are missing, not correct.
- When the round ends, use Show real colors to see what each green really was. It's the fastest way to get better at this mode.
